Interesting. I've got 50+ plays, most are 2p, but have played enough 3-4p games that I would say just the opposite. I have won the majority of my 2p games and largely ignore the water strategy (i.e. yield the first player position), while in a 3-4 I find that I struggle to position myself for a fighting chance of winning, if I ignore the boats.
