One of the justifications I've heard recently for the thin player boards is that they are less likely to get snagged or bumped by your hand than a thicker board would be. In a game like CoB, its pretty important your board not be bumped and messed up. Whether it is actually that or just an after the fact explanation of cheap components is up to each person's interpretation I suppose.

I was about to ask something similar to this. This seems like a good game that would be well accepted in my group. Unfortunately we don't have a regular meetup place set up, and usually resort to cafe / fastfood restaurants (think narrow walkways - easy to get bumped into by someone walking behind you, and limited table space).

So, just how fiddly are the components? The tiles do seem small and light, prone to fly around and make a mess if an accidental bump occurs.

How much table space is needed? We usually have enough space to play Space Alert (which also uses main board + player boards), if that can be used as reference.

Thanks in advance!
