It will not work with the original boards. The reason why is that it is impossible to reach certain regions by the new rules. In every original board there is at least one region that is not connected to a castle. For example, in boards #1 there are 4 regions you can't reach: a 3-hex brown region (north-east), a 3-hex brown region (south-west), a 3-hex yellow region (south) and a 1-hex green field (east).However, you can play the new boards by the original rules.
