OK, sorry the posting has been a bit spotty! It was almost 60 degrees today, and almost that nice yesterday, so I have NOT been sitting at the computer writing! :) I've been enjoying the outside, because it's FEBRUARY, and I KNOW I'm not likely to have weather this nice again for several weeks!! :)

But, I have been gaming! Yesterday was the Indy Boardgamers, and I was supposed to get in on a game of Goa, but as my friend Cara was coming for the first time, I didn't want to start a long game and leave her out. So, while I was waiting for her, Todd and I played Star Realms. I just had the worst card pulls - seems like no matter what I bought or how I tried to manage my deck, every single hand gave me at least one card that I couldn't use. Even the starting two, which is never a good sign... And Todd did a heavy Federation strategy, which meant he kept healing, so by the time he killed me, HE was about a zillion points ahead...

ANYWAY :) Cara got there, and with Chris, Todd, and myself, we were looking for a five player game, so we played Istanbul. I usually do pretty well at this, but again, TODD! He kept going where I wanted to go ONE step before I did, remind me to never sit to his left again!! It ended with Todd having five rubies, and everyone else having merely TWO...

During that game, Cara was telling us she had gotten The Castles of Burgundy for Christmas, but hadn't played it yet, so after Istanbul, I taught her and Brian to play. It worked out pretty well - both of them being new meant the first round went really slow while they figured out all the ins and outs, but after that it went well. Brian won, so I apparently did at least a reasonable job of teaching THIS week!

After that, Cara and several other people had to leave, and there were five of us and about 90 minutes left, so we played Kingsburg. Corinna had never played before, but she did pretty well. Todd won - I usually do a Town Hall-Embassy strategy and do fairly well at this, but I never got the @)^&(%^# Embassy built this time due to really horrid die rolls and excessive worry about the stupid monsters, so I came in dead last. Good thing I play for fun and not for the joy of winning!!

Today's game was a quick game of Order Up with Darren and my son. Son had a meltdown about 3/4 of the way through when he realized there was really no way he could win. Very unusual for him, but he's actually had some emotional outbursts lately. I think he's getting ready to grow, or possibly he was just over tired from playing outside so much the last two days when he's not used to it. We usually get some cranky tired behavior after the first park day in the spring, this could have been similar. At any rate, we talked him down, and he finished the game, and he didn't do that badly - $95 to my $130 to Darren's $140. Kids!!
