You should try:King of Tokyo (DEFINITELY!)
Among the Stars (drafting like 7 wonders) but also spacial/tile laying
Takenoko (introduces great game mechanisms that noobs can digest)
Kingdom Builder (without the expansions)
And if you wanna get them in a little deeper...try Small World and the ultimate beginners worker placement, Lords of Waterdeep.
