Clearly not done to gain an advantage. Not cheating.

But you do get an advantage. If I don't know what you've rolled and I have a choice between taking two ships, I'll pick one at random. But if I know that you've rolled two sixes and have a single worker, I'll take the ship on the one spot so that you can't. So while you haven't intended to act unfairly or intended to get an advantage, you have in fact unfairly gotten an advantage.

Would that include if you were taught the rules incorrectly?

Yes, you're still breaking the rules and getting an unfair advantage.

Or if you set up a house rule to induce someone to play a game with you?

I hate house rules. Initially I set up the worst house rule geeklist and since so many people seemed to like house rules, I set the best house rule geeklist to give them an outlet. But the majority of the time house rules make a game worse.
