For sure, having double is generally an issue at this game, and for this, the variant looks great to me (at least to give it a try).I am not sure yet whether you should pay a worker for this; it looks a little too expensive to me.
For those that complained because it was a too good thing to give the choice, what about systematically re-rolling the dices once: You rarely need the double, and it prevents you from being stuck with many doubles.
Well I might try one of those tiny variants one day...
