Apart from the closeness in the yellow/light green tiles I find CoB to be fine.
Also I don't always agree that fancy is better. I'd much sooner play my standard version of Puerto Rico than the Anniversary edition - they made some really poor design choices with that one in my opinion. I've made mistakes playing it that I would never make with the standard version eg the colonist spots on the Tobacco Storage are way too light and I've missed counting the spare spots during the Mayor phase cleanup.
